Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling Enters the Doctoral Classroom at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine

At the invitation of President Zhou Xiping of the American Institute of Health and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dr. Bin Cai visited Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 29th to teach a course on musculoskeletal acupuncture to doctoral students. As an essential part of musculoskeletal acupuncture, Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling (FSN) was presented for the first time in English in a formal doctoral course. On the day of the lecture, over 60 participants joined the session via Zoom, hosted simultaneously by the New York FSN Association and the New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Alumni Association.

Dr. Bin Cai, the current President of the FSN Association, delivered the lecture in line with the ideas of FSN’s founder, Dr. Zhonghua Fu. He provided an in-depth exploration of the clinical applications of acupuncture, detailing the development, characteristics, indications, and common diseases treated with FSN. The presentation included numerous case studies from the U.S., showcasing the significant effects of FSN and its application experiences in America, aiming to promote the use of FSN in the U.S.

Autumn in Minnesota is a captivating spectacle. As the leaves transform from vibrant green to golden, orange, and deep purple, the entire state becomes picturesque. Minneapolis, one of the largest cities in Minnesota, is known for its vibrant culture, culinary scene, and natural beauty. The doctoral students at the American Institute of Health and Traditional Chinese Medicine showed great interest in learning FSN and expressed a desire to continue their studies. Online participants also expressed interest in purchasing needles for further learning.

Dr. Bin Cai’s Biography:

Dr. Bin Cai holds a bachelor’s degree from Anhui University of Chinese Medicine and a master’s degree in orthopedics from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He has worked as an orthopedic resident and attending physician at the affiliated hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Cai earned his doctoral degree from Southern Medical University (formerly the First Military Medical University) under the mentorship of Academician Zhong Shizhen, a pioneer in clinical anatomy. He completed postdoctoral research in biomedical engineering at New York City University and passed the NCCAOM acupuncture certification exam. Additionally, he pursued acupuncture clinical research for a year at the Integrative Medicine Department of Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Cai is currently a licensed acupuncturist in New York and New Jersey, a faculty member at the New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and operates four acupuncture clinics in New York City. He serves as the President of the Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling Association New York, a permanent member of the FSN Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, a permanent board member of the New York Licensed Acupuncturists Association, the Legislative Department Minister of the American Professional Acupuncture and Safety Alliance (APPAS), and a permanent member of the Targeted Therapy Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.
