The Founding of the Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling Association New York on the National Day of China

Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling (FSN), invented by Dr. Zhonghua Fu in 1996, has now been developed for 22 years. Adhering to the medical credo of “less interference from the skilled, sincerity, simplicity, diligence, and benevolence,” practitioners of FSN have continued to refine and advance the technique. While FSN has flourished across China, its application in the United States remains relatively limited. We were fortunate to host Dr. Zhonghua Fu in New York from September 29th to September 30th, at the invitation of the New York State Acupuncture Association. Over 50 licensed acupuncturists in the U.S. attended Dr. Fu’s seminar. During the course, Dr. Fu used lively and humorous language to explain the theoretical techniques of FSN, while Professor Wu Jidong from the UK demonstrated FSN operations with great skill. The attendees were amazed by the miraculous effects of FSN, especially in treating severe pain conditions. FSN represents a revolutionary development in acupuncture, breaking away from traditional theories and providing rapid and effective results, sometimes even faster than anesthesia. FSN can relax muscles and relieve spasms, with broad indications, quick and precise effects, comparable to Western medicine’s local injections, easy operation, and no side effects.

After the training, enthusiasm was high among participants, who eagerly inquired about future sessions in the U.S. They expressed a strong desire to continue learning. Dr. Zhonghua Fu suggested, “The U.S. is so large, there should be an FSN organization here,” and proposed the establishment of an FSN association. After careful preparation, the Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling Association New York (FUS Subcutaneous Needling Association New York) was officially founded on October 1, 2018, in the vibrant Chinatown of New York City, on the special day of our great motherland’s birthday.

The establishment of the association received strong support from Dr. Lin Rongsheng, Vice President of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies and Vice President of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies.

Dr. Lin highlighted that FSN embodies a modern acupuncture concept integrating traditional and new medical ideas, bringing innovative advancements to acupuncture in the U.S. He was honored to be appointed as an advisor to the New York FSN Association.

Dr. Zhonghua Fu serves as the Honorary President of the Association. At the founding meeting, the first President was Dr. Pingqing Chen, with Dr. Bin Cai as Vice President, Candy Wong as Secretary-General, and nine directors. The association also received significant support and advisory assistance from Dr. Chen Jing, a senior member of the New York Licensed Acupuncturists’ Association.

Although our association’s scale is modest, FSN is a powerful clinical tool that benefits the nation, patients, and practitioners. We have every reason to wholeheartedly promote FSN, which embodies Chinese wisdom, throughout the Greater New York area. We will work alongside our fellow FSN associations to spread this technique globally. We firmly believe that with our efforts, sincerity, diligence, and compassion, we can help more acupuncturists understand, use, and study FSN, and also introduce it to other doctors and physical therapists in the U.S.
